MILITARY AND OLD AGE PENSIONS: In the opinion of the Public Petitions A to L Committee, the Government should be requested to legislate so that military pensioners should bo allowed to receive the full benefit of the old age pension. x TEMPORARY POLICE CONSTABLES The Police Force Amendment Bill, introduced by Air Massey, gives the Minister of Justice the power he possessed under the war legislation to appoint persons as temporary constables who will be subject to three -months’ notice and not ho regarded as permanent officers of the public service. JUSTICES OF THE PEACE. In an amendment to the Justices of the Peace Act, introduced by the Minister of Justice, provision is made for extendincr to two years the time within which informations may be laid, or complaints made, for offences punishable on summary conviction. UNIVERSITY FUNDS INCREASED. COLLEGE GRANTS. The New Zealand University Amendment Bill, introduced to-day by Governor’s Message, makes provision for the additional payment of £TOOO annually to the New Zealand University. The Bill also provides, in accordance with the Budget Statement, for the payment of an additional annual jrant to each of the university colleges of £2500. and to the Otago University ot £SOOO in all. including £2500 for the Dental School. Provision is also made for a grant of £-500 to each centre for workers’ extensions lectures, amounting to £2OOO in all. It is stipulated that these lectures shall include tutorial classes in university subjects-
