FOR THE CHILDREN.

THE TALE OF A SAILORMAN. Tis the tale I’ll toll of a Sailorman With his eyes so blue and his face like tan, Who sailed away with a Yorkshire ham And a pot of home-made raspberry jam To the land where the Gormongs dwell! He sailed away at the break of day, Fast tho great big warning bell. And he just looked in on the Orispian Coast hero the natives live upon shrimps and toast, And a little lemonade as well. Till at last he came to the Gormongs’ land, And the seas ran rough and high; -The trees wore made of anchovy paste And the streams were like green tea to taste, And the lulls like beefsteak pie. The Gormongs seized on the sailorman, And they uttered shrieks of delight; “If he’s fried in butter and crumbs,” they said, “And served up hot with a slice of bread. He’ll do for our dinner to-night.” But this didn’t quite suit the salorman, So he spoke up bold and free ;• And ho said, “I’ve got a Yorkshire ham And a. pot of home-made raspberry jam. They’re both of ’em nicer than me!” So they let the sailorman go free^ And snatched at the Yorkshire ham, And the sailorman sailed away again, And as he sailed o’er the billowy main Ho saw thorn eating tho jam. And ho thanks his stars, does that • sailorman. With his eyes so blue and his face like tan. That he’d sailed away with his Yorkshire ham And his poi of home-made raspberry jam To tho land where the Gormongs dwell.
