HUNT CLUB BALL.

THE DEBUTANTES’ HOUR. The Hunt Club ball was a. brilliant success. Such was the general verdict of those who attended at the Art Gallevy last evening. A golden glow of softly shaded lights showed up the beautiful gowns worn by matrons andj the dainty ones w’oru by the younger j set. The Art Gallery was completely j transformed with yellow and white! bunting which covered ceiling and walls,! and masses of mauve and deep helio-1 trope wistaria.. Mirrors, palms and! flowers made an attractive setting for) the dancers The permanent gallery I was transformed into a big lounge room and decorated profusely with japouica. Supper was served 'in a , speciallyerected marquee and there again the predominating colours were yellow and mauve, but violets and irises were used instead of wistaria. A special little corner was set aside for their Excellencies. who_ arrived about nine o’clock, accompanied by their aides-de-camp. There were a number of onlookers, including a number of proud mammas and chaperones of the debutantes. The programme opened with an official set of lancers in which his Excellency the Governor-General danced with Mrs John Grigg. Mr Derek Westenra (Master of the Hounds) with her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool, Mr Arthur Elworthy with Mrs Marmaduke JJethell, Air Harold Russell with Airs Arthur Elworthy, Air John Grigg with w? Her Excellency tho Countess of Liverpool wore a very lovely gown of pea-cock-blue and gold brocade, the bodice being almost entirely composed of gold lace, and a diamond ornament in her ha.ir.

Mrs Wigram wore a handsome black georgette tunic frock with a gold tissue bodice, and gold bead edging on the tunio skirt.

Miss Nan Bioh, a verv beeojmiing frock of white georgette and net with a ,' fcnmmin g an d ornaments. . Mr s Arthur Eiworthy looked striking m a draped gown, of delicately coloured mauve figured crepe de chine and silver tissue.

Mrs Charles Campbell wore a rich black sequmed frock, which tapered to■wards the ankles in a very micotmhon manner. The black jet ornament worn in the coiffure was most effective. Mi-s John Grigg, dark blue brocaded gown relieved with a red rose. Mrs Vernon, a black net frock mounted on charmeuse, with jet trimming. Mrs W. H. Norton, who chaperoned her daughter, wore an elegant frock of smoke-grey georgette with steel embroidery. Her daughter, Miss Peggy Norton, chose for her debut a simple little white satin frock with jewelled trimming, and sho carried a white ostrich feather fan. Miss Rita Matson, who was chaperoned by her mother, wore a gold-trimmed white satin and georgette frock- Miss Helen Rich, another debutante, chaperoned by Mrs Vernon, wore a girlish frock of white net on a foundation of satin, with tiny touches of gold lace. Two daughters of Mr Justice Herdman, the Misses Hazel and Violet Herdman, also made their debut. Both wore white georgette and carried quaint. Early Victorian posies. Miss Noeline Enight (a debutante) wore a dainty white ninon frock muchly draped, with crystal trimming on tlic corsage. Miss Studholme made her debut in an elegant frock of softest supple satin and lace. Mrs Mowbray Tripp wore a smart green and_ gold brocaded gown; Mrs Algar Williams, a three tiered frock of pale apricot and gold crepe-de-chine; Mrs A. M’Masterj a delicate pale shell pink brocaded satm frock adorned with gold tissue; Mrs William Deans, an effective gown of black satin embroidered with iridescent beading on panels; Mrs Scott, a handsome petunia colouried tissue frock with an overdress of black net; Miss Dorothy Newton, a charming toilette of deep coral pink with smart touches of jade beaded trimming; Miss Rita Gibson, pale pink net and pale blue ribbon; Miss Phyllis Boyle, a black net frock with narrow panels of royal blue and silver brocade; Miss Cowlishaw (a debutante) a prettily designed frock of white satin with real lace hip panniers ; Miss Gould black net frock with Jet trimming; Miss _ Molly Clifford, pink satin with a white net overdress edged with the palest pink ostrich feathers; Mrs Lindo Ferguson (Dunedin), a striking frock of yellow brocade; Mrs E. B. Davison, sweet frock of delicate flesh coloured ninon and dimante tunic; Miss Rita Moss (Wellington), lime coloured lac© frock; Miss Xorah Bennett, watermelon coloured frock with black panniers and jet ornaments; Miss D. Cook, a very charming frock of royal blue and silver; Miss Margerv Thomas (Auckland) gold brocaded tissue with black velvet shoulder straps; Miss Gladys Anderson, jade georgette frock with Chinese gold corset, and jade angel sleeves; Mrs Bernard Wood, jade green ninon over silver brocade; Mrs C. H. Ensor, lime coloured net frock over satin.
