WHAREVUT. The monlhly meeting of the' tVharonui School Committee was tieid on Wednes<U,y evening; present—Mr T. -tiabberiicid (cnaumau), nicsdftnies F. A. "White and S. btantou, Messrs G. Bates, B. b. M'Lean and J. Singleton. A letter was received irora the Education Board informing tile committee that Mr J. E. Maxwell, who had returned from active service, would resume bis dutets as teacher on August 25, and that Mr L-. P. Thomson had been appointed on the stall tinder Clause 33 of the new regulations. It was decided to write a letter to Mr Maxwell welcoming him home and congratulating him on arriving safe and sound. Circulars from the Education Board were read dealtag with the conditions and improvements of school grounds, and also with reference to the observance of Arbor Bay. It was decided to accept llio board's offer for Arbor Bay. The head master reported 391 on the roll, with an average attendance of 348. The chairman gave a resume of the business done at the School Committees Association. The monihly meeting of the Papanui School Committee was hold on Monday night; present —Messrs Patrick (chairman), Smith Hadley, Barnard and "Woodham. It was resolved that the prizes donated by Mrs B. Roberts for special purposes should be returned. The secretary was instructed to write to. the board concerning the head master’s refusal of such prizes. The head master reported that the roll number of tho main school was 304 and the average attendance 249; the roll number of Bligh's Road school was 88 and the average attendance 77. Mr "Wood reported that the deputation appointed to wait upon the board relative to the raising of the Bligh’s Road school from an infants’ to a main school had received « very favourable replv to their request that the present main school improvements should receive the first consideration of the board. Accounts to the amount of £6 11s 4d were passed for payment. The schedules of duties fot the caretakers were adopted.
