Id. The total revenue was £473. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. It was decided on the recommendation of the Council that the shields offered for-com-petition at shows during 1919 should lie increased to ten and donated as follows: North Island—AXasterton, Feilciing, Hawke's Bay, Auckland and Ha.wcra. South Island.—Christchurch. Dunedin, Invercargill, Ashburton and Gore. Tho chairman stated that the increase was warranted by tho state of tho association'*! finances. It was suggested that the number of shields should he further increased next year. The Council was instructed to circularise members with reference to the publication of a Shorthorn guide. It was decided that after July 1, 1919, breeders must tattoo or fire brand all animals twod for breeding purposes and that the tattoo or fire brand bo included witb pedigree and annual breeding returns. Air J. A. Coop moved: “ That it be a recommendation to the Government that stud cattle submitted for public sale should be tested for soundness.” Air G. Stoddart considered that the motion would penalise tho man who did not sell his stock publicly. It was invidious to particularise stud cattle and let the sellers of other stock escape. Mr Coop agreed to substitute “breeding” for “ stud ” cattle. , Air D. G. "Wright considered that the suggested alteration would kill the proposal as the Government A’cterinary Department could not deal with ihe number of insooclions which would be rendered necessary. After further discussion tho motion ns amended was carried. The election of officers resulted as follows; —President, Mr R, E. Alexander (re-elected! ■ vice-president, Air AV. P.
