TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of tho Canterbury Trades and Labour Council was held on Saturday night, at the Trades Hall Messrs E. Semple, M.P.. and j. M'Combs. M.P., were present by special invitation, and addressed tho meeting. Mr H. Worrall read a. paper on ‘ Technical Instruction and Ticpresentation on the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors/* A committee was set up to arrange for a protest to ba. entered against tho new representation proposals. ■

The cnnual report, which was adopted, stated that the number of I/abour represent tatives on local bodies had been.increased; assistance had bean given to thousands of laboureis; the council had taken a part'in all educational activities; the workers’ cooperative movement was making good progress; and the Labour movement was full locally and from a Dominion point of view.

The Hall Committee’s report, which vu also received, stated that the accommodation, haa been taxed to .the utmost during the past year, and the committee would have to seriously consider putting another storey on the front. Whilst the building was in good order, it was beginning to show signs of its past thirteen years’ wear and tear. It needed painting throughout, and the iron on tho roof would certainly have to bo renewed before next winter.
