Mr T. Harle thanked the members for again electing him president. He hoped they would all work together for the welfare of tho show. There was a lot to be done in tne way of improvements to the ground, and he hoped that the work carried out would oe of a permanent nature. The committee’s report stated that the annual show was held on March 14, and was fairly satisfactory. .The attendance was good, and the exhibits, especially in the eheep section, were better than in former years. In tne light horse section the classes were good and competition keen. Cattle exhibits were only moderate, as also were pigs. In these two _ sections tho show should have record entries, t seeing that the district was practically a dairying community. Poultry should have shown better competition. In the Drill Hall it was to be regretted"that only 50 per cent of the entries were brought in, consequently competition was not nearly so keen. In the copkery and fruit sections tho judges hod difficulty in picking out the winners. If other sections had filled up os well, there would have been no cause for complaint. The children's exhibits were especially good, and some new classes were introduced in plasticine modelling, carton work and wood-work. Tho competitions on the ground were not nearly so keen as in former years, and some other attractions must be introduced to keep the show from dragging. The band, of late years had been sorely missed, but it was hoped that with the boys home from the war, interest would be taken in getting it together again. During the year the committee had held several meetings. The committee took up the matter of urging tho completion of the Main South Island railway. Circulars were sent to various bodies, asking their support, end it was gratifying to note the number of favourable replies that had been received. Tho committee regretted that more interest was not taken to increase the membership during the last year. A largo number of properties. had changed hands in thecounty, end if some of the new men could be induced to join the association it would be a very great advantage. The members’ subscriptions were the lowest in any year. The entries, however, were very good. Last year the gate receipts were good, and the sale of catalogues was. the best the association had’ had. During the year the association had had three secretaries; Mr Prideaux had left the district, and Mr Renner had also resigned and gone to Christchurch. Tho committee thanked all those who donated special prizes; also the judges and all other workers. ■
