The fortnightly gathering of the Canterbury Caledonian Society was held in the society's rooms last evening. A good programme of song and dance items was provided. Supper was served by the ladies. An interesting gathering took place at Ashby, Bergh's warehouse on Saturday, when the manager, Mr IXrayton, presented Mr Arthur Gray with a gladstone bag and a case of pipes, on the occasion of his leaving for England, in company with his wife, to visit hia parents. The president of the Automobile As. sociation (Mr J. S. Hawkes) -will leave for Blenheim to-morrow in company with Messrs R. W. Lochhead and A. S. Clarkson, to meet the committee of the Marlborough. Automobile Association on Saturday afternoon and discuss affiliation. The Canterbury delegates will return to Christchurch on Sunday. Mrs B. Giles, late of 214, Springfield Road, St Albans, has received advice that her son, Rifleman P. M. Giles, is returning to New Zealand by the Port Hacking. Prior to enlisting Private Giles -was employed by the Christchurch City Council electrical department. His two brothers, Trooper A. H. Giles and Lance-Corporal S. Giles, have lately returned, ._ „
