Young, general secretary of the New Zealand Seamen’s Union, that there werq thousands"of, tons of ooa-1 on the West Coast waiting to be taken -away, after making exhaustive inquiries throughout the district it is clear that the above statement is quite erroneous, as there are absolutely no stocks in the coal bins at the various mines- It is a. common occurrence for steamers at this port to be delayed waiting for coal, and often they are compelled to sail short-loaded, owing to coal not being forthcoming.
