RETURNING SOLDIERS.

TROOPS ON THE WAY HOME: ‘ [Pee Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Jifly 7. The Defence Department has been advised that two more transports have left England for New Zealand. - The Somerset left on July 2 with 967 troops, and is due at Lyttelton about August 12, and the Mamarij with'loss troops, is due at Auckland about August 13. This brings the total of troops on the water up-to 9558 in eleven transports, which also carry 605 women and 154 children.

The transport Ruahine is expected . here to-night, arid berths at 7 a.m. to- \ morrow if a clean ship.

SOUTHERN MEN LEAVE TONIGHT. WELLINGTON, July 7. The Ruahine has been declared a clean ship. It is understood that there were five deaths during the voyage, mostly of infante, but no names are available. The vessel had a good passage, and the \soldiers were given a good time comjng through the canal. The troops for the Auckland district leave by a special train leaving Thorndon at 12.25 p.m. to-morrow,, and the Wairarapa men leave Lambton at 8.5 a.m. Those for Manawatu, Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay leave Thorndon at 8.4 a.m. The southern men leave by the Mararoa to-morrow night, and those for Marlborough, Nelson, and districts north of Westport, by the Nikan at £ p.m. \
