MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

TO-DAY’S CASES, CHRISTCHURCH. Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.-, presided at to-day’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court. DRUNKENNESS- _ Two first offenders were each fined ss. in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. BROKEN ORDERS. John Allan was fined 40s and costs for entering licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order in force against him. Charles Nelson and Thomas Nolan, charged with similar were each fined 20s and costs. AN ESCAPEE. , Maka Kaimoka, a Native girl, pleaded guilty to having escaped from the Salvation Army Rescue Home, to which she had been committed for two years on April 3. She was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, the Magistrate warning her that any further appearance in Court on a similar charge would result in her being sent to gaol. MAINTENANCE CASES. John Hall, £45 5a in arrears under a maintenance order requiring him to support his child in a Government institution, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided the arrears were paid off at the rate of £2 a month.

John Hancock (Mr Cuningham) asked for the variation of a maintenance order requiring him to contribute 25s a week to the support of his wife and child. As a decree nisi in respect to the parties had now been made absolute tlie order to pay 25s a week for tho maintenance of the wife and child was reduced to 10s a week for the support of the child. Mr Flesher appeared for the complainant, Sarah Hancock.

Herbert Henry Mqher was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order made in respect of his wife, Nellie Moher (Mr Lucas), the warrant to he suspended so long as 10s a week should be paid off the arrears and the terms of the original order complied with.

LYTTELTON. _ Messrs W. T. Lester, J.P., and P. Knight, J.P., presided at the Lyttelton Court to-day. Thomas O’Brien, charged with drunkenness and _ using obscene language* was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and fined £5, in default one month’s imprisonment, on the second charge. 'William M’Carthy, for using obscene language, was fined £O, in default one month’a imprisonment.
