RUGBY FOOTBALL.

JUNIOR MATCHES.

CHRISTCHURCH (9), OLD BOYS ©), \ Christchurch forwards won the game against Old Bbys. They were, the heavier and they hooked well, and they •also played splendidly in the loose- The game was chiefly a forward one, passrushes by the backs being a rarity, tackling tiud ; kicking of'both sides were; wretched, .with the exception of '»alker and Orchard, both of whom put in some splendid line kick#. li’or • Christchurch Orchard’s, .line kicking was.splendid, but otherwise Jie did not play up to form. . Davies at nve-eigbths put in 'some splendidstraight runs. He; cut in well and always made a good opening. Marshall hwe-eighths played a splendid defensive game'. -Phillips at half-back sent tlie hall out well and his rush stopping was good. The forwards, who showed splendid; form, all went well, and it is hard to pick out. any for special mention, bi.it .Biosey, Williams and Irwin were solid workers.

Tor Old Boys, Walker at full-back fielded and handled well, while his line kicking was, splendid. Willoughby on the wipe put in several good runs and his tackling was good. Russell at centre was safe, but had few chances to show his attacking powers. Garrick at five-eighths, and later at full-back, wtm good. Lascelles, who was played at five-eighths, would have been better at centre or .the wing. Corbett at halfback could not get the. ball away at all. Henshaw, from the forwards, played half-back in the later stages of the game and went well. He was always on the ball and his footwork was splendid. Penny. Donnelly and Reese went well in the loose. BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL (24), MARISTS (8),

On the whole this match provided a poor exhibition of football. Marists were outclassed from the start. Their backs were weak, and it was due to the sturdy work of the forwards that the opposition score was not considerably .larger. The School forwards played a

great game, but the backs were patchy. tor School Jacobs at full-back played a sound game. His defence was good and his handling was neat aw<J accurate, while Ins line kicking-showed good judgment. Crawford on the right wing put in many da shy runs. Page, Ualley and Carlton made a fine trio at half and five-eighths respectively, but their passing could have been improved on. Alley went particularly well in the forwards,, and he and Pa.rnham hooked splendidly, whole Sands and Robertson, played noil in the loose. For Marists little can.be said of the hm:k s as an attacking combination, M Ronald was the best, and he did & large amount of work and was the mainstay of the team. He was always on the Spot when trouble came and he -•extricated his side from trouble oifi several . occasions. Meechinn. showed possibilities as n- back. Munday had lew opportunities behind , a . beaten Pack. The forwards, although ..an-in-ferior side, played up well a 11' through. O’Connell was the most conspicuous, while Flora and Dehavev also plavccl ; well. "

NOTES. , Attention was drawn,.in this column two weeks ago to the nuisance caused oy cyclists, lea ving their cyclcstelpfokto the . touch line while witncssihgAthe 1 various games in North Park, ; but-;ap-pa.rently no notice has been taken of the matter,. On Saturday last an accident happened which -might easily have ended seriously. Two rdaverV charged over the touch-line and” collided with a lady who was thrown oh to a bicycle with the two players on top of her. Cannot the Rugby Union take this matter up and instruct .referees to ins'-T on the ' lines being ■ clear of cycles?
