As a result of enquiries made sonic months ago 4 as to housing, sanitation and water supply at mining townships in the Dominion, special reports have been prepared by inspectors under tlio control ot the Public Health Department of the housing, etc., at every mining township in New Zealand. These reports have been submitted to the IL". 1 . G. W. Hassell, who, has instxucivd that a general report should ho prepared, dealing, with goHmining townships in onq, and with coalmining townships in another, with a view to legislation being prepared for tho improvement of tho conditions. At tho Juvenile Court today a boy, aged twelve, charged with' breaking and entering a dwelling at Linwood, and fetealin l , therefrom articles to the value of .£1 !5s lid, was ordered to report to tho- Probation Officer once a week for twelve months. His father was ordered to refund the. value of the goods not yet recovered.
