Carpentaria ■ were billeted-in various homes by members of tho Harbour Lights Club during the week end. The Hon IV. D. S. Mac Donald end Mrs Mac Donald arrived in Christchurch liotu Wellington yesterday morninc, and are slaying at Warner’s. On Saturday morning, at Broadway’s. Miss. Gwen Whiteombe entertain eel a number of her friends at morning tea. Miss Whiteombe will leave for England this week. Mdtle Antonia Dolores, tho work' famed French soprano, attended St Alary’s Roman Catholic Church, Manchester Street, yesterday afternoon, and sang Mr R. H. Rossiter’s composition, “ 0 Balutaris Hostia.” During- last week there was held at Woodford House, Havelock North, :h© biennial conference of the Head Alt stresses’ t Association of Secondary un-Departmental _ Schools. It was attended by head mistresses from all parts of New Zealand. The association was termed five years ago in Auckland with the object of promoting the efficiency and interests of priva te schools through'out New Zealand and of establishing-a feeling of fellowship amongst tho varions head mistresses. These points the retiring president, Mrs Henry Smith, emphasised in her address. As part of the useful work accomplished at the conference, it was decided to esbahlim a registry for teachers, with Miss A C Freeman as registrar. Miss Baber was elected president for the ensuing period The next conference will be held iri Dunedin'.
