THE PEOPLE’S PART. LARGE SUMS CONTRIBUTED llic Hon G. W. Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, gave to the Press to-day columns of figures showing contributions to war funds by the people of Now Zealand, and! the minis still in band in different funds. The returns for Nelson Province 6JB practically only for the Grey district, as the War Funds Council has taken the responsibility, fox the Sutler and eomo other districts. ‘ The following ate tho positions of particular funds in different districts; — Auckland—Tho Provincial Patriotic War Relief Association, up to March 31 last, had oollected £440,094. It paid £32,220 away last yoar, transferred £3659 in the same year, and had £316,360 in hand. Tho Auckland Women’s Patriotic League had a. of £21,676 and tho Auckland R.ed Cross Society a credit of £61.572. To Victoria; League in Auckland had £3576, the Belgians’ Fund! £21,195, and small credits amounted to £4Bl, makins a lotal credit of £423,860. Wellington.—The War Relief Fund, restricted to the city, collected £102,07-5, spent £5689 last wear, transferred £lll7, and had a credit oi £75,919. The Wellington Rod Cross Society had a credit of £71,348. Canterbury.—The Poor of Great Britain, Ireland and Belgium Relief Fund had a credit of ■ £30,319. and tho Canterbury Rod Cress Society ft credit of £33,822. Tho Canterbury Patriotic Society had obtained £199,233, spent tho previous year £16.179, transferred the previous year £6149, ana on March 31 last had in hand £133,077. The Canterbury Laxly Liverpool Committee had a credit of £3935. Otago.—The Otago Patriotic and_ General Welfare Association obtained £302,157, spent tho previous yoar £19,294, transferred £3690, and hod a credit of £112,391. The St John Ambulance Association in Dunedin had a credit of £254, and the Red Gross Society £-1536. Southland.—The Southland War Funds Association obtained £135,952, -spent £8409 tho previous year, transferred £28,705, and had a credit of £72,685.
