The vital statistics for the Christchurch district for the month of Mat' arc as follows, the figures for the same month last year being given in parenthesesßirths ISt (170), deaths 90 (73), marriage notices 7-1 (GO), marriages in office 17 (14). The late Sergeant-Major Choate, who was killed as the result of a fall on tho ' returning transport Pakoha, was accorded a military funeral yesterday. The deceased was interred in the Linwood cemetery in the presence of a large assemblage of relatives and friends. The body was carried to the cemetery on a gun carriage, in charge ,f Sergeant Wether all, and the pailrearers were a party of six returned soldiers. _ The Kev J.
