SPORTING NOTES.
The winter meeting of tho Auckland Racing Club will be continued to-mor-row. The Great Northern Steeplechase is the principal event. Waimai, who won last year, is again in strong favour, hut he may meet strong opposition from some of the recruits from thd hurdlers. The Dunedin Jockey Club’s winter meeting will lie opened to-morrow. Good fields aro assured for most of the events. Canterbury stables being fairly well represented, while Southland horses will he in strong force. Considerable interest will attach to the Ota go Steeplechase. Vascular is top weight. _wit.li Kanpoknnui and some useful ‘ Southland horses to oppose him. anefi jumping ability will play a. prominent part in deriding the race, ns the course is one of the hardest in the dominion-
