The Mayor stated to-day that he was making an application to the Christchurch Tramway Hoard at its meeting to-day to_ put that portion of the roads_ for which the hoard is responsible into good repair. Tho hoard is required to keep tho portion of the track between the rails in good condition, also a strip of the roadway 1 Sin ou each side of the rails. In many of tho streets traversed hy the tramway system there are _ numerous “potholes,” and these, it is considered, cause much damage to the whole roadway. as water nercolntos through them into th« macadam and causes if, f 0 break. The Mayor hones that the hoard will see its way to place n solid concrete foundation under the tram rails and thus obviate the wear and {ea.r on tho roadway.
