RANGIORA HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Ra.ngior« High School Board was held last evening; preflpnt -Mr R. Ball (chairman), the Rev F. P. Kendall, Messrs H. Boyd, R. Oollie, J. Mnrshdl, W. A. Bunks, and O. I. Jennings; niso Mr T. R. Callaghan, acting: principal of the Hchool. Tho following cheques worn received: —£3 5h from the Kowni County Council, £2O from the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association, £7 ]f)s from the ltangiora, County Council, and! £lO from the Rangiora Borough Council, being: grants in aid of thai department of the school. Vot«§ of thanks were passed to tho respective donors. Willi reference to the proposal of the N»tion«l Efficiency Board that secondary schools should close earlier this year, in order to release pupils for farm work, tho Pireetor of Education wrote that it was noB considered desirable to make any material alteration in the closing- of the school at th« end! of the current year, or in the cLate b£ tho annual examination conducted by the Department, inasmuch &a the month of December appeared to lw» less valuable for tho purpose than the month of February, and niso in view of the fact that tho matriculation examination remained unaltered. No objection would be offered; to extend the mid'* summer holidays beyond the visual period, tr- include the month of February. Tho board decid'ed to consider th< question of extending: tho holidays at it* next meeting. The Agricultural Bub-Committee reported respecting th* work done on the now lagrij cultural plot. A vote of tliartks was passed to Mr O. Ijeooh for n. donation of post* But* ficient for fifteen chaina of fencing on th« section, mid to Mt T. lyeeoh. for cultivating work done gratis. It Vo-i decided to add Ml J. B. "U'ylie, president of the Northern. Agri< cnltur.nl and Pastoral Association, to the agricultural sub-committee. Tt wao decided to hold over the mattei of renovating the interior of the school until after tho annual inspection in October.
