Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S-M., presided' over a sitting of the, Magistrate's Court this morning. DRUMvENNESS.

An elderlv man, figuring as a firsto offender from the fact that he had nott been before the Court for drunkenness within th 0 past six months, was charged with having been found drunk in Ashbourne Street, Sub-Inspector Mullanev stated that the man had como in'from tho country with a good deal of money on him, and had l#en drinking very hoavily. He suggested that it would he a good thing for tho accused to be remanded in custody for a week, and this course was adopted. ALIENS ILLEGALLY ASHORE. Arthur Helmar, Peterson, a Norwegian sailor, a.nd Sugfred Nelson, a. Swedish sailor, were charged tliat, being aliens, they had landed in New Zealand without passports, and without-, permission from the Customs Department.

The Norwegian contented himself with assorting that no one had warned him against coming ashore, but Neilson explained that he had permission to land, in order to see the Swedish Consul. The interview over, he had li>en told to get aboard again. In a case in which A. E. Nicholls sued A. V. Wilson for £7, tho claim was in resp.ct of iron belonging to the. plaintiff and taken by the defendant from the plaintiffs property in Durham Street during April last. The caso was heard at a. previous sitting, and judgment was now given for the defendant, with costs amounting to £2 7s. Judgment for plaintiff for £6 and costs was'entered in the case Laurens Steenhart (Mr Noavo) v. Ernest Arthur Hicks (Mr Donnelly). Plaintiff had purchased a property which had been leased to defendant, who was given tho right to cancel tho leash unon find in** another tonant. The defence was that there was nothing due for gate fittings, tho fences and gates were in disrepair whon the tenancy commenced, and that tho balance of rent. d';ie had been tendered but rcI'.ised. .Judgment was for plaintiff for ,C 1 and costs.

Sugsrcd Neilson. charged with being drunk and disorderly on Norwich Quay" was fined 10s.

At the Lyttelton Court to-dav. before Messrs L. A. Stringer and C. W. Clearv. Justices, David R.intoul Cousin was charged with having failed to advise the Government Statistician of a change of address. Defendant stated that he had enlisted in Auckland, and had been rejected by the doctors'. In view of this circumstance the Bench decided to fine defendant only 10s and costs.
