PRICE OF BUTTER.
WHY IS THERE NO REDUCTION?
Tho price" of"'butter was attain mentioned in Parliament yesterday by l>r Neirmaji, who asked the .Prime Minister whether the Board of Trade had made any report about tho matter. Mr Massey replied, that the maximum price would stand. A member of the Board of Trade had bought butter in Wellington tho other day at Is Gd. . .
Mr Massey: "I think it was 'Defiance.' Butiter is being sold here from Is 6d to Is Bd."
Dr Newman: "Why should it bo Is 5d in Auckland and Is 8d here?" Mr Massey said that while thojprico of butter was reduced some time" ago this was due to a glut in the market caused, by tho shortago in shipping. When this was relieved the price naturally went up again. Tho prico could not go higher than Is. 8d now, anyhow.
