THE TERRITORIALS.
DISTRICT ORDERS. A special course of instruction for officers and non-commissioned officers of senior cadet companies of secondary schools will bo held at Purau, Lyttelton Harbour, from August 30 to September 6. All ranks will bo in camp at 6.30 p.m. on August 29. They will bo quartered in tents on the mainland close to Ripa Island. All the messing will be in the buildings on the island. Tho following camp staff has been appointed :—Camp commandant, Major W. C. Morrison; adjutant and quartermaster, Lieutenant R. A. Hawkins; medical officers, Lieutenant-Colonel C. H. Upham and Captain J. A. Newel 1; camp sergeant-major, Sergeant-Major W. L. Glanville; camp quartermaster-ser-geant, Sergeant Instructor S. Kott; camp clerk, Corporal H. G. Reeves; squad commanders, Sergeant-Major Shuttleworth, Staff Sergeant-Major Brant, Sergeant Instructor Stevenson and Sergeant. Instructor Pike. A general order issued to-day states that applications from time to time have been made by officers for promotion andn that this practice is forbidden. Promotions are made as vacancies occur, in accordance with the .New Zealand Expeditionary Force regulations. Applications for promotion ar« therefore unnecessary.
