RETURNED SOLDIERS.
■> THEIII TREATMENT. A MEMBER'S COMPLAINT. Inquiries made by Mr H. G. Ell, iM.P., ha vo convinced him that returned soldiers are not being treated so well as they should be. " I am not satisfied with what the Government Department is doing,'' Mr Ell said yesterday. "I think that it might do more. Information I have received shows that it lacks the necessary element of co-operation. I have been told of a particularly distressing case. A soldier practically lost hi? eyesight, and he receives only a small pension, which is inadequate. The Christchurch Citizens' Defence Corps, ti whliom the case was reported, is communicating with the Pensions Board, and it is hoped the soldier will receive all that is due to him. Many other complaints have been made. Evidently there is a great deal to be done still "before tho position of returned soldiers is made absolutely satisfactory." Mr Ell concluded by expressing his appreciation of the efforts of Mr A. JSymons, officer in charge of thte Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Bureau. That gentleman, he said, was painstaking and conscientious, and was doing admirable work for the soldiers.
