MAGNETIC DISTURBANCES. ABNORMAL SOLAR, ACTIVITY. A very large magnetic storm was lecistered at the Christchurch Magnetic Observatory last evening during the continuance of the Aurora. The storm commenced at 5.30 p.m. and presented very unusual features. At (5.30 p.m. the storm assumed an extraordinary oscillatory character, and continued violent until 11.30 p.m. At 8 a.m. this morning another storm commenced, and this also probably will be very largo. Both the magnetic storm and the Aurora are undoubtedly associated with abnormal solar activity. In the opinion of the director of the observatory, the solar activity has no connection with tho earthquake experienced in the North Island.
