Xn Jennings this afternoon drew the Finance ?,iinister's attention to inequalities and hardships which may arise if raw silks imported are further i.'ixii! while made-up silks are allowed 10 enter without additional duty. The member urged that unless n corresponding impost were, placed nn made-up articles the, new duties would mean s great hardship in a large numher oi workers in this eountry. Sir .Joseph Ward replied that ho had asked tho head of the Oustoms Department for a report on this matter of silks, together with several others, and when it was prepared, lie would acquaint moniIx'.'s of his int'-'iitions. Tie assured the House that any alterations mado as a. result of suggestions from members during the next fortnight would date, as from August 7.
