BABIES' HOSPITAL.

. + MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee appointed in connection with the Rabies' Hospital wa.s held in tho Art Gallery at noon to-day. -Mrs W. W. Morton presided, and twenty members attended. Mrs Morton stated that a house on the hills was under consideration. I>r Lester vsaid that the best plan would be to wait until the committee had an opportunity to choose between several sites.

Dr Sand.stoii said that a building might bo used temporarily and the committee, later, might erect a building to suit its requirements. ]>r Lester and Messrs H. I). A eland and L. Clark were appointed a subcommittee to inspect different sites and report to another meeting of the committee.

Mrs .Morton stated - that canvassing still was being done at Kaikoura, ilangiora and Asiiburton. The committee .should consider how the balance of the money required would be raised.

Mr 0. Ij. Donaldson, treasurer, stated that about £BOOO was in hand. Contributions from Ashburfon, Timaru, Kaiapoi, Rangiora. Omilii and Kaikoura were due. Tliev should he. good for at least £IOOO. The total of £IO,OOO, therefore, was in sight. The Malvern district had raised about £OOO, and the Peninsula district about the same. Dr Lester asked if the. Masonic Lodge had been approached as a craft with a view to a contribution. Mrs Morton replied in tho negative. It, was decided to work up the country districts before, tho ne\t committee meeting. In answer to a question. Mr Donaldson said that theiv was about £IOOO outstanding from the promised contributions. ft wa.s only a matter of asking for the money and it would, be forthcoming. .Dr Lester asked how much land would be needed for tho hospital. He did not think that much land would bo required. The opinion was expressed that it would be necessary to have .two acres at the least. .Accounts amounting to £Ol were passed for payment.
