BREACHES OF AWARDS.

CASES AT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. At the Magistrate's Court this afternoon before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., tho Inspector of Factories (Mr J. Jackson) proceeded' against several employers for alleged breaches of awards. Robert M'Cartney, charged with failing to provide a sleeping whare, said that all his man did not care to go into the one whare together, and lie had provided two tents, which woro more Tbvgienio. 'Mr Jackson said that the. award was explicit, and the cook could not be al--1 lowed to sleep in the galley. I \ penalty of £1 was inflicted. A. H. Jones, a driver, was charged ixvith failing to enter in a time book provided by his employer the total s hours for which ho was entitled to bo l.naid. He did not appear. ' A. Schumacher, the employer, was • charged with failing to verify and initial *a time book every twenty-four hours. , . ■ M. J. Flanelly, another employee, was charged with failing to enter up his time. He did not jppear. Schumacher said that the book was there for the men to sign, and wages had been paid up to.date. Schumachor was ordered to pay 20s and Flannel ly and Jones 10s each. J). Thomas and 13. Turner were each ordered to pay 10s for failing to oritur lip time. J. Wilson, pork butcher, was charged with failing to pay one Bruco the award rate. ..-,-. Mr Rowe, for tho defendant, said that defendant did not know that he was hound by tho award, and he was not cited. The defendant said that he had only averv small business.
