He was a member of the Waikari Lodge of Oddfellows. His eldest brother left with the Twenty-seventh Reinforcements, the deceased having been a member of the Seventeenth Reinforcements. RIFLEMAN W. READ. Rifleman \Y. Read (killed in action) was the only son of 31 r YV. Read, i'2, Barrington Street, Spreydon. and was a native of Christchurcli. He was twenty-one, years of age, and prior to

enlistment was in the employ of the M'Lean Institute as a gardener. He enlisted with Lord Liverpool's Own, and v as wounded in action in June, 191(i.
