There was a huge crowd at Hospital Corner to-day to see tlie meeting of Marists and Merivale A. the two i- ams, in the Senior competition who were lying 'level, half a point behind Linwood. The game was a splendid triple, much in Merivale'.-. favour, but it ended in a draw, without any score. On the adjoining ground Lniweod easily beat Old Boys, increasing their lead in the championship by half a p-cint. The teams stand as follow: —

Tho game was played without wing forwards, v,Liich improved the- game lroai a spectator's point of view. Early in the game Watson bad an easy shot from a penalty, but A rninuto later Malzard" passed out to \ates, who scored hair-way out., but 1 ortunr/s kick ali:>\ve<l too much for the wind. Even v.lay folicwed for some time, O'id Bay.f I>;ing fairly successful in the scrum, but there was little passing. Cox had to go off. and was taken, to the Hospital. Shortly before haiftimo the Linwacd forwards :»ot up a. ntsh, and scored at tho corner, tho kick vailing. Early in tho second half Old Boys rushed the ba.li down and from a, penalty in tho serum right in front Tench landed a goal. The play continued scrambling and uninteresting until Serra potted a goal, and r. litUv lai:r \Y. Cum mints got over with a r_;ool dash, and Fortune converted with a fino kick. The final score was:—

Merivale kicked off and set, up an attack, and hard forward play followed. Merivale marked and Williams had an attempt, at goal, but the wind carried the hall away. Merivale kept the ball in the Beds' quarter. Christchurch were penalised, hut the advantage was not improved. After another l'jsh Doyle fell over the line and Williams scored, the trv being converted. Half -time was called soon afterwards. On resuming. Chrisrcmireh set no an attack and kept the advantage. From some tight play. Mat son potied a magnificent goal. Christchurch continued to press and Woods initiated a passing rush, but it only ended in a scrum. Merivale cot. the ball and punted it down the field, where Murray fumbled. Good kicking by Woods kept the pla >" out of the Bods' territory. But Merivale set up a dangerous rush and Doyle registered his second try. The kick -it gml was unsuccessful. / Time was called shortly afterwards, the scores bcinrr: Mem-air. B . Merivale kicked oft against the wind, and the Greens got going, but were stopped by Penberthy, who mark-id, Ids kick transferring the play to the Greens' half. After some midaeld play Khouri got. in a well-placed line k.'ck, and for a spell the Merivale goal line was seriously threatened, the Greens showing some characteristic passing rushes which, though deserving, proved fruitless. Th. : ' Marists kept up the pressure, but Merivale, nothing away, at length came with a rush, a.nd the play was transferred to the other end of the field. It was then the diarists who were kept on the defensive, but the Blues could not scor«. The encroachment on the lines by the spectators hindered the players considerably. The Mnrists again gradually go* the play to their opponents half, and on the whole kept it there until thd end of the spell, neither side having scored. The football w?« clean and vigorous, I'Ait little occurred calling for special comment, it a contest of teams rather than individuals. The second half started with Merivale having the advantage.
