"THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT."

The second presentation of the pantomime, ''The House ihnt Jack Built." by tho J. 0. Williamson Company, was witnessed by an exceptionally large .audience at the Theatro Royal last night. The. principals were accorded a very hearty reception, and their work. whether in comedy or siuging,_ was thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated. The choruses were sung with precision, and the orchestral support was very effective- The. solo dancing' of Maggie Dickinson was much admired, especially in her portrayal of the "Dance of the Emotions." The ensemble ballets of the, seasons were also delightful. The comedy element, headed by Arthur Stigarit, kept the audience in a state of continual merriment.

The; management has decided to extend.'the'season by two more nights, the final presentation being set down for Tuesday next.

"THE BATTLE OF THE ANCRE.'

The official war pictures of the Battle of the Ancre continue to attract many peoplo to His Majesty's Theatre. Yesterday afternoon and evening there were'enthusiastic crowds, and every item in the series was watched with deep interest. The "tanks." the different recimonts. the preparation ior the attack, and tho charge early in tho morn in a: again drew forth the loudest applause. IvV the evening Dean Carrington, in the absence of Bishop Julius, gave a short patriotic address before the second part was begun. Mr G. Bowron sang " Invictu??' and as an encore '• Lorraine."

The pictures will be shown twice daily, at 2.30 p.m. and at 8 p.m.

FULLER'S VAUDEVILLE COMPANY. On Saturday evening next, Fuller's new theatre in Christchurch—His Majesty's—will be opened for the first time. To commemorate the occasion the management will present the yellknown Walter Johnson Revue Company, which has been playing to crowded houses for some weeks in Dunedin. The initial production is "Tho Railway Tangle," a highly humorous musical comedy, which is said to contain many spectacular effects, pretty ballets and catchy vocal numbers. The compaiu comprises twenty-five artists, headed 'bv popular Australian comedians, Gus'Franks, Jack Kearns. Harry Burgess and Ernest Lashbrooke. The leading ladies are Lola Hunt, Vera Kearns. Lydia Carne and Belle Melette, and there is an attractive ballet of fourteen artists. In addition to the revue the programme will include several first-class vaudeville, turns. This portion of the bill is beaded by the Royal Tqgos, two Japanese equilibrists, whose performance includes a sensational turn on a rope stretched from the balcony to the stage. Antonio Molinari, who was accorded such a favourable reception on his last appearance, will be hpard in fresh operatic numbers, and Tim and Gertie Moore, two coloured comedians, will supply the humorous portion of the vaudeville section. The box plan is open at Messrs Milner and Thompson s. COLOSSEUM RINK. Roller skating is experiencing a great run of popularity this season at the Colosseum Rink. The attendances yesterdav were again large, particularly at the night session. A pleasing musical programme was presented by Dunns Band, which added much to the enjoyment of skaters.
