WOMEN POLICE.

TO THK KDITOR. Sir.—Mav T, through yonr paper._remove from"tho mimls of the Now Bnghtou people a wrong impression which, they seem to have gathered the deputation from the WX ■ I l • which waited upon the Hon &. W . bustell on Monday last? That deputation did not approach the member with the object, of obtaining the appointment of women police lor N>w Brighton. The WX'.T.U. throughout the Dominion is making an effort in obtain legislation for the appointment of women police for the purpose of safeguarding young people, who do not appear to have sufficient, parental control (not necessarily the young peoulc of anv particular place). AVith the view of adding to this effort, the deputation waited upon Mr 'Russell, and the fact that it was felt that such supcrvision would be beneficial in the borough did not necessarily imply that New ."Brighton was worse than any other place. Mr Russell,-in reply, stated that he proposed to ask for power to appoint women inspectors, who would really be patrol officers, and who from time to time would visit the seaside resorts; and the question relating to power being given to such officers was merely a 'desire to ,know whether they would have authority to inspect baches if complaints were made.—l am. etc.

A. M. HALL, President New Brighton J3ranch Dominion "W.C.T.U. New Brighton, July "IS.
