WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD

The Waimakariri Harbour Board met last night; present—Messrs W. Doubleday (chairman), J. Wright, L. B. Evans, L. Edmond, H. C. Revell and J. W. Barnard.

Tito Marine Department forwarded a copiy of regulations regarding tho taking of wharves for war purposes, Tho harbourmaster reported an averago depth of water on the bar up to February 22 of 7ft 6in. The tides for the following four days showed an improvement, but had since been poor. The bar was slowly working south. The Wootton had been unable to land sheep owing to the shallow bar. There were bad shallows in the river below Kairaki and above the training wall. Tho end of the training wall was bulging outwards and rnight collapse at any time. H>e recommended that tho end of the wall should be pulled away as tho safest measure, and the one most likely to result in the improvement of the channel, which showed, a tendency to resume its old course. The report was adopted, arid it was decided that the Works Committee should inspect the river and report at next meeting. The Finance Committed was empowered to arrange for payment of a debenture for £SOO falling due on April 1. The Finance Committee reported receipts amounting to £27 19s lOd, and a debit balance of £ll6 17s. Accounts amounting to £8 5s were passed for : pay Stent.
