TRAMWAY BOARD.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETENG. The Christchurch Tramway Board met yesterday; present-Air C. M. Gray (chairman), the Hon J. Barr and Messrs S. A. Staples, D. Sykes, H. Pearee, A. S. Taylor, G. T. Booth and J. A. Flesher. The chairman announced that the report of the Cathedral Suuar-o Improvements Committee would probably come before the next meeting of the board.
The Works and Traffic Committee reported that the tender of Cooper and Duncan, Limited, at £330 6s, had been accepted for the supply of the truck for a new trailer now being constructed by Messrs Boon and Co. The number of new trailers to be ordered was still under consideration. Messrs Million and Robinsoivs tender of £33 10s each for four telephone booths to be erected at Biccarton, Sockburn, Addington and Bur wood racecourses, bad been accepted. The Patriotic Motor Carnival Committee bad asked for a proportion of excess receipts in connection with the riiotor carnival held at Sockburn on Saturday, February 17. The committee recommended that the sura of £lo should be donated. The Returned Soldiers' Association had applied for permission to erect a sign in the Cathedral Square shelter shed directing returned soldiers to the club rooms in Gloucester Street. The chairman and general manager had been authorised to act in the matter. During January eleven accidents were reported, but none were of a, serious nature. In the same month six written complaints relating to the conduct of tho staff were received and suitably dealt with. In reply to Mr Pearce, the chairman said that according to the minutes, the hoard was committed to seventeen trailers in all.
Tin' report was adopted. A request by the Woolstom Borough Council for a seat at Harper's Siding was referred to the Works and Traffic Committee, together with a letter from Mr K. Acton, suggesting that a shelter should he provided at the Heathcote Bridge stop. *' A certificate was received from the Public Works Department authorising the use of the new double track from the Manchester Street crossing to Stanmore Bead.
Mr Taylor gave notice of motion for a return showing the length, of all penny and twopenny sections.
