AT SALONIKA.

ITALIANS AND RUSSIANS LAND, j AN ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME. Australian and N.Z. Cablo Association. (Received August 23, noon.) ROME, August 22. The streets of Salonika were thronged for the welcome to the Italian troops. Not only was the military spectacle unique, but the gathering included almost all the Allies. A score of races were represented. The Italians were commanded by General Derarets. Shouts' of <; Vive Italia!" greeted the men. General Sarrail presented the decoration of the Legion of Honour to five Italian officers. Tho news of the fall of Gorizia arriving, on the same day added a flavour to tho martial scene. Equal enthusiasm was exhibited' earlier on the occasion of the landing of a j Russian force. A group of Greek priests blessed the landing. The men's martial hearing impressed tho population. There are now Russians upon every front from the Caucasus to Champagne except one. Rome newspapers are optimistic regarding the Salonika enterprise, and declare that all the Powers of tho Entente j are participating. There will be repar- j ation for Serbia's martyrdom. Never has the conception of such a unique ; front assumed a more exact and con- j ciete reality. The expedition must be I an obsessing menace to the enemy. j
