THE BRITISH FRONT.
FURTHER PROGRESS. WHOLE OF DELVILLE WOOD TAKEN HEAVY CANNONADING. The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, July 28 (3.10 p.m.). Sir Douglas Haig reports:— After severe fighting we drove the Fifth Brandenburg division from its remaining positions in Delville Wood, capturing three officers and one hundred and fifty-eight men. The whole wood is now ours. Two German counter-attacks were beaten off with heavy loss. We made further progress in Longueval village, also near Vozieres. In the latter area we captured forty-eight wounded Germans. • During the night the enemy guns were active against our new positions. There were also heavy artillery duels on various sectors. Near Neuvo Ghapelle sinall parties of Germans succeeded in entering our front trenches at two points, but were immediately driven out by counterattack, leaving their wounded. North-east of Souchez, also at other points, we shelled tJie enemy's front and communicating trenches.
