A Berlin communique says that after intense artillery fire the British made strong attacks near Pozieres and Foureaux Wood, which broke down completely. There .was bitter liand-to-hand fighting at Longueval and Delvillo Wood, but the enemy did not progress. Two Russian army corps vainly attacked six times on the Skrobowa and Wygoda front. Russian attacks northeast of Swinichy tesEfoor&rily gained ground. The Austrians drove the Russians out of advanced positions near Fostomgty.
