SEFTON DAIRY COMPANY.

CHEESE NOT TO BE MANUFACTURED AT PRESENT. A meeting of the suppliers and shareholders of the Sefton Mutual Dairy Produce Association, Ltd., was held yesterday in tho Sefton Town Hall Mr J. Barclay presided over an attendance of about forty. Tho chairman explained that tho directors had called the meeting in consequence of tho agitation throughout the Dominion for dairy factories to go in for tho manufacture of cheese in place of butter. Tho directors had heard' very glowing accounts of the prosperity" of cheese factories in the North Island and in tho Otago province, and ho would like to hear an expression of opinion from the suppliers on tho subject. The secretary said that tho mam point for the .suppliers to consider was whether the extra price paid by cheese factories for butter-fat would compensate tho farmer for the diifereuco m the value of whey and slum milk, added to the extra cost of eartmg milk to tho factorv in nlace of separating and having the croara carted by the company. It was estimated that the cost oi converting the Sefton factory into a cheese factory would be about, £BOO, and it would cost, a further sum of £2OOO or move to erect a i'aotorv at Woodend'. Many questions were asked and an-swea-ed"by"th6 chairman and Mr G- Clayton, of the Government i/airy Department. Mr R. Borland moved, and Mr A. J. Parkinson seconded—" That no action bo taken at present by the company, and that tho manufacture of butter be proceeded with." . The general feeling of the meeting was in favour of the motion, and it was carried by an overwhelming majority.
