- 4> YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS. Last night, when the shops we.ro open and when large numbers of people came into the streets, the Industrial Exhibition in the Colosseum was visited by large numbers of patrons, who strolled through the courts and watched the. working exhibits. During the evening Mrs Walter Hill's flag was sold once more. It has brought in altogether the sum of £62 10s. There was a good sale last night also for other articles offered at auction. The New Brighton Baud was in attendance and played selections. At the unanimous wish of the exhibitors it has been decided to continue the exhibition for two more evenings. Monday and Tuesday, from 7 till 10.30. SOME NOTABLE EXHIBITS. (Published by Arrangement.) CHRISTCITURCII GAS. COAL AND COKE COMPANY, LTD. A COMPREHENSIVE EXHIBIT. DOMESTIC LABOUR SAVING AND OTHER. APPLIANCES. The outstanding feature of the Gas Company's exhibit is the gas kitchen, presided over by Miss E. M. A. Johnson, L.C.A., the company's demonstrator. Four gas- cooking stoves are in constant use, and plain and fancy cooking of all descriptions is expounded to the numerous visitors that throng the •stall. A small oven with a glass door is shown, and the action of heat : on the articles being cooked can easily be watched'. All articles cooked in the exhibition are sold to visitors, the company devoting the whole of the proceeds to the Patriotic Fund. A washing copper.in which the water is boiled by means of g«s is in active operation, and the cleanliness of this great domestic labour saving appliance is clearly demonstrated. L An item of interest is the latest " gas laundry iron, _ the '•' Uneedit,'' and anyon? wishing to ascertain the ease and comfort of this useful article may try it for themselves, as house linen is provided for the purpose. Hot water geysers, both ordinary and automatic, are shown in operation. With the automatic geyser hot water may be obtained in any part of the house by simply turning on the tap. This action lights the- gas in the geyser, and turning the water off extinguishes it. Grillers, boiling rings and other domestic appliances are also on exhibition. Gas fires.of, various descriptions, suitable for.the home, shop, office or factory,. are fixed at the back of the stall, and the designs exhibited, illustrate the wonderful advance that has been made in the amount of radiant heat that is developed by a modern gas fire. LIGHTING. The lighting is •of a most brilliant' character. Arches erected above and in front of the stall are outlined, with fifteen-candle incandescent burners, and make a pretty display. Over the alloyway aro~ suspended three 700-candle-power Humphrey -lamps and two 450 c-p. lamps-of similar design. _ln the stall itself are samples of semi-ind'irect lamps and other units from 300 c.p., and l-o c.p. : lamps and burners. . The inventive faculties of the staff are constantly being employed in the cause of the industry. Otic of the latest inventions is that of Mr Swauston. in which the problem of lighting and extinguishing an inverted, lamp by electricity from any distance has been successfully solved. The apparatus is on view at the stall, and anyone interested may examine the mechanism, which, is simple and' at the same time extremely ingenious.
