RUA'S CASE.

FURTHER EWDHKE. [Per Press Association.] ROTOIIUA, April 29. In the Rua case to-day, Sub-Inspec-tor Johnstone stated that when tho advance party of police entered Maungapohatu, Rua, who appeared to have been drinking, asked if ten sheep woukUbe enough to feed the whole party of police and Maoris. He claimed that he was the Holy Ghost. When the firing commenced. Rua was removed out of the firing line. Cross-examined by Mr Lundonj SubInspector Johnstone said that before the Commissioner arrived Rua spoko in an undertone to his followers and waved his hand. He called out in Maori. During his struggle with witness no( shot \vas fired tiirßua was handcuffed. As Rua continued struggling, the Commissioner ordered him to be frog-march-ed. After his arrest Rua offered to pay fines and withdrew the offer on finding that the expenses of the expedition would be added.
