WITTENBERG HORROR.
RESOLUTION OF PROTEST. At this morning's meeting of the Presbytery the following resolution was brought forward: — "That the Presbytery expresses its horror and detestation of the unspeakable conditions under which British prisoners were compelled to live in the internment camp at Wittenberg. Such inhuman and'brutal treatment as disclosed, by the report of the Home Government Committee, of- which Mr Justice Yonng is president, is contrary to the laws of all civilised nations and is an outrage on humanity. The Presbytery heartily, supports the action of the Christchurch City Council and earnestly desires that tho authorities shall take such steps as are possible in the circumstances." The resolution was moved bv the Rev G. Lindsay and seconded by the Rev J. W. Hayward. . Mr J. Dickson wanted to know what good it would do. 7 The Rev J. Johnston said he hoped it would have a good effect on recruiting '" The Rev S. E. Hill the sooner they got compulsion the better. The resolution was carried.
