The Peninsula, and Euesmore Queen G\liss Birdling) was leading at noon today in the Queen election contest, rising from fourth place. QUKKX ELECTION. \t the first count of voles in connection with the Girl Queen election the position of candidates was as-follow:-So. 3—Miss May Thropp (C.D.C.) . 1 0< l—Miss Jessie Loach (Returned and Active Soldiers) . ■ . 2 So. 2—Miss Trixie Bradley (Territorials) -° The usual concert at Everybody's Theatre last night in aid of the Soldiers' Queen was again attended by a full audience, but the monetary offering fell off a good deal from previous standards. The musical programme; however, was very good, and met with a hearty reception. Miss Turner gave a pianoforte solo, Mrs E. O'Brien, Mrs Stallard and Messrs K. Harrison and A. E. Petty sang, and Miss Fjvia Felmingham gave a musical monologue, all the items being very enjoyable. The C.D.C. Band and" concert party gave another performance on Saturday evening in front of Mr R. S. M'Kenzie's shop ;n Cashel Street. PVom the temporary platform, erected above the verandah vocal solos were contributed bv Mesdames J. Henry and 9. East. and Messrs AY. T. M'Kay and M. W. Gillmore. The accompaniments were played by Miss Maud Stringer. The CiD.C. Band, under the oonduotorship of Mr A. J. Merton, contributed several pleasing selections and a collection was made on behalf of tho Soldiers' Queen in the queen election. • Dr Alice Moreland and the Nurses and Women's Committee ask all friends of tho soldiers to contribute cakes, meat or bread 1 towards the refreshment stall of the military pageant to be held at the trotting grounds next Saturday All contributions are to be left at the Citizens' Defence Corps rooms next Friday or Saturday morning early. Ladies willing to assist are requested to attend a meeting at the C.D.C. rooms at 7.30 p.m. to-morrow.
