THE METROPOLITAN MARKET. TO-DAY'S SALE. [Peh the " vStau " Pigeon Express.] T'ho weekly sn!e at the Addington Metropolitan market to-day was conducted under raUier riineront climatic conditions than several recent sales, a liaht shower of rain during- the morning having laid the dust, and during the early part of tho sale a rain fell at interval. The yarding 1 was a moderate one, all classes ot stock being fairly well represented, but there was nothing in tho nature of a glut. Tho attendance was an average one. FAT CATTLE, The yarding of fat cattle was of medium proportions, consisting! of 247 head, compared with 294 last week, 200 oh (September 22, 298 on September 15, 247 on September 8, and 307 on September 1. The quality, although as usually covering a wido range, was on the whole satisfactoiy, and included some exceptionally fine animals, as clearly evidenced bv some of the sales made. Notwithstanding this, however, there was an absence of 'the strong demand ihat ruled a fortnight ago, and to a lesser extent last week, and prices wero easier for all descriptions, the decline in values representing) about 2s Gd pr lOOib, compared with the rates current on -September 29. Quotations are: Extra prime steers to £2O 15s. Ordinary steers £8 5s to ill 10s. . Extra prime heifers to £l6. Ordinary heifers £6 7s Gd to £8 ss. Extra cows to £lB ss. Ordinary cow a £3 to £B. Fat calvea were in ordinary supply, and prices showed little if any variation, ranging from 8s for very small sorts to 49s for good, well-grown calves. FAT LAMBS. There were 66 new season's fat lambs penned, smne of them being on the small side. Wel'-grown prime lambs sold well, but the light sorts were tl'fficuli to sell and several were passed in. The range of prices was:— Best lambs, 19s Gd to 21s. Lighter 12s 3d to 19s. The principal sales were: —For T. There were between eight and nine raoea occupied with fat sheep, but a number ■of the pens were not well filled. Included in the offerings were several lots of shorn sheep. The market opened well. STORE SHEEP. The yarding of store . sheep was wiihin narrow "limits and consisted largely of hoggets, tho balance being made up of a few odd lines of wethers and ewes with lambs. The presence of a North Island buyer h.aa ] a stimulating- effect on tho market, the competition being distinctly brighter than was the case at the last sale, and was quite ©qua] to that of a fortnight ago. Prices all round were distinctly belter, Iho visitor securing about one-half of tho entry. 1line of nice wether hoggets, excellently woolled, realised 20s Id.
