PRISONERS CHARGED WITH MURDER.
Constable M'Grath received two shots in the breast. When entering the doorway of the corridor Sub-Inspector M'Kenna had a narrow escape. One of the burglars fired a shot which grazed him and entered the thigh of a second burglar, Jackson, who- was in the line of fire. Buckley and Jackson were taken to the hospital, and subsequently, with Ward, were charged with the murder of M'Grath. Tbe burglars' objective was the office of the Typographical Society. The safe was found wrenched from its stand and a portion of the steel back sawn off. When they wei-e interrupted the men were prising it open with a. jemmy. There have been several attempted burglaries at the Trades Hall lately. One succeeded and £4OO was stolen. Since then the place has been closely watched. MELBOURNE, October 2. The three men arrested are builders' labourers, two being members of the union, which has rooms at the Trades Hall.
