CLUB OPENINGS. Five cf the bowling 1 dubs in the Chrisichurch Centre of the Dominion Bowling Association held their opening day ceremonies to-day—Sydenham, Opawa, Linwood, Rangiora and Dunsar.del. Tho weather was beautifully fine, and although some of tho greens were "a littlo hard owing to exceptionally dry weather, careful treatment had in .all instances done a great deal to counteract the lac'k of rain. SYDENHAM CLUB. Sydenham Club en.erUined on its green 8, large number cf visitors frum other dubs, and a number of .adiea. Afternoon tea w» provided. The National Anthem was then suing- by all present, and Miss Yule sent down the first •bowl, sc-c-rmg a " toucher," and the club members'and visiting bowlers then took part in a nine-rink match between sides picked by the president andjhc vice-president (Mr C. Tayler) respectively. OPAYvA CLUB. Tho Opawa Bowling and Croquet Club's opening day ceremony was well attended by club members, lady visitors, and visitors from otner cubs. The president (Mr John Clarke) gave the visitors a hoarty welaome, and announced '-hat an honorary member <-f the club to whom a little presentation was recently made, had reciprocated by pending •along a bit; s.'ico oi" wedding cake. Tho president ate a piece himself, and handed the remainder to tho lady members (croquet section) in be divided, and placed under their respective pillows. The opening day ceremony of the Linwood .Bowling and Croquet Caib was a pleasant and. Hicce.ssful function. There was a largo muster of players en the Duns and <■ I green this afternoon to assist in the. opening day ceremonies. A strong contingent journeyed out from the cilyj among them being reprepciuatives of the Canterbury, Chrirtchnrch, Uds;>w<u-e, Rt Albans, United, Sumner and L/ttelton Cubs, while players from Lec.aloji and isoutbbridgo were also present.
