ADDINGTON YARDS.

; TBE METROPOLITAN MARKET. ;■ TO-DAY'S SALE. i Yardinjra at the Addingtou Metropolitan Market to-day were- of üb-jtu average a.inen- ' Bious for tho season of tne year, and there i was about th cfisioma-'y attendance. '4 no • tou sheep included, a low lines out of tne woaJ, anU no doubt from now onwards tho ; proportion of shorn sheep will increase rapidiy. Compia.ints regarding unia^eur- . ab.e wea.ker conditions are nfo amongst i the patrons of the market, and num&ious siories were mated regarding losses sustaini e>d by itock-owners as a u<esulc of the protracted spell of dry weather and the consequent shor.ag» of herbage. The grain oro^s ' in moat localities, in spite of the absence of ■ moisture, are looking surprisingly wed, but , mars a,re entart&iuedi that unless rain cornea Boon they will ere long begin to show signs • J of the dry weather. ' FAT CATTLE. Fat oattle were represented by an entry I eggrogating: 23.1 head, compared with 209 last week,' 233 on September .15, 217 on Septemboi ' it, &JT on September 1, and 263 on August ' 25. Onoo again the entry included a saas- [ lactory proportion of ready good, well-finish-ed cattle, bu. again there were those which wero in indifferent conduion, and could be S described as stores rather ihan -a-s fats. Tho [ competition was again free at i.h-3 opening of ihe. sale, particularly for the bo.tcr classes of beef, although prices were scarcely up to ' the level of last week. As tho supply was greater lhan requirements, iho demand soon showed an easing tendency, and thencefor- ! ward sales cou.d be ma-dc only at j low- the pariiy of the values ruling on Sep- ; tembcr 22, the drop in prices representing' .about Is 6d per 100ib'. TEALERS. j The yarding of fat calves, a« at several recent rales, consisted largely of immature 1 animals', largo calves being- the exception. ■ Prices ranged from 8s to 60s. FAT SHEEP. ! There waa a decreased entry of fat eheftp, only eight races being filled, as against nineand a half la»t week. Tho yardmg was of average quality, and on account of the short supply the market opened at firmer rates. FAT LAMBS. Tho high prices realised last week for new season's lambs had the effect of making a iarge increase in tho offerings this week, there be-ng no less than 80 penned. Most of the lambs were weil grown and prime, but several lo.s were backward, anc these fa led to sell. Best lambs made 19s to 235, and lighter 15s Gd to 18s 6d. Ihe principal sales were: —For W. F. The yarding- of store sheep differed litt'e in p-int of numbers from .hat,of last week, ana again hogye.s constituted the bulk o i he entry, the balance being made up of a few lines of ewes and wethers. At tho open■ng oompetit on was rather weaker than at ihe previous sale, but shortly afterwards here was an improvement in values, wh.ch, however, was not maintained, the sale being, a draggng one towards the cose. On account of several reserves having been bafed on last week's values, several lines were passed at auct on. In some cases, however exceptionally good sales were effec ed. bu! tho market showed a decided inclination towards irregularity. Quo at.ons were:— Good ewe hogg«ts. 20s Id to 20s 4d.
