TROUBLESOME THIRST.
BEER ANDFAISS PRETENCES. At the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court this morning, Wilfred Edward Harper was charged before MrF. W. Anderson, J.P., and Mr J- Garrard. J.P., with having, by falsely representing himself to be Stanley Hill, received four bottles of beer, valued at 4s, the property of Albert Edward Broog.
The accused' pleaded guilty. Senior Sergeant Ryan said that, Hill worked .on board the schooner Annie Hill, and accused, who was also there temporarily,, went to the Albion Hotel on two occasions and obtained the liquor, once from the barmaid and later from tho licensee. He described the man as a waster, and since being ejected from gaol had lived on his father. The accused said he was not in his right senses, and asked that a prohibition order bo taken out against him. Harper was sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
