In a recent interview Ludwig Fulda, the German dramatist, paid: "Technically, American dramatists are simpler than those of Europe, but they are also move careless. Your authors do not seem t-o pay any special attention to—to—what is your word for ' motivierenP' What I mean is that they do not, for instance, give enough heed to the entrances and exits of their characters. Tn your plays characters walk on the stage when they are wanted and walk off again when they are not, without any special reason. Now. entrances find exits ought, to ho carefully worked up by a playwright."
