THE WEATHER.

Though the sky was_ dull and the atmosphere cool in Christchurch this morning, the. conditions were a plea; sant change from 'those of yesterday. During the earlier part of the morning the prospects were not very promising. But,'" for one or two exceptions, the whole of New Zealand experienced wintry and boisterous -weather.- A northeast gale was raging at Auckland, accompanied by continuous raiil. Squally weather and parsing showers were general north of Auckland. _ East Cape reported a cloudy sky, with a Iresh north-east wind. Continuous rain and fresh north-easters were in evidence at Gisborne and Napier. _ There was a cloudy sky at Capo Pallieer, and Cape Egmont reported rain; a rough sea was running at both places. An overeast sky and a light easterly breeze prevailed at Wnnganni. At Wellington the weather conditions were calm, but drizzly rain fell. Dark gloomy weather and passing showers were the order at Westport. Greymouth reported an overcast sky. The conditions were glonimv at Ben ley. Timaru and Oamaru enjoyed blue skii.s and light northerlies. Similar conditions were reported from Dunedin. AH southernmost stations experienced blue skies and calm weather. The barometer has a rising tendency throughout the dominion, and the seas arc becoming rough. • _ The following is the Government Meteorologist's report for twenty-four hours from 9 a.m. this day: "Winds The indications are. for variable and strong breezes, with, easterly winds, strong to gale, prevailing at- times, hacking by oast to south. Weather—Expect dull wenther, with much mist and fog in parts. Much rain is to bo expected. Barometer Barometer unsteady, with a tendency to fall again soon.
