THE BROKEN MAIN.
CITY'S WATER SUPPLY. The work of repairing the broken liiiaan at the junction of Colombo Street and Moorhouso Avenue is practically finished, but there is still some work to be carried out in connection with tho Isewago pipes which cross the water Smaiii. A new steel pipe has replaced jthe broken one,,which was of cast iron, 'and this morning the full pressure of water was turned on to the city. Mr A. D. Dobson, the City Surveyor, told a "Star" reporter this morning that tho sewage riiains were going to be altered so as to run under the water mains. Thjs work was being carried jout with tho concurrency of the .Christ[•church. Drainage Board, and was projcoeding as fast as possible. In order to bring the sewage main underneath, he said, a syphon'would have to bo made, and.this would materially lessen the chances o£ future bursts in the .same Upot.
