';;;■.;-■' ANNUAL MEETING. The annual;meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board was 4ield to-day; preR. Moore (chairman),, H. 'Friedlander. F. Horrell, J. Storry',' A. (Kayo, J: B, Webb, C. Allison, J. Little, M. J. Miller and J. J. Dougall.' • The chairman moved the adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, extracts from which are published elsewhere. Mr M. .1. Miller 'seconded the motion, and Mr A. Kaye, supporting it, [referred to the work done by tho Board's suction dredge, Canterbury, which he said had lifted over a million ,tons of silt, at an average of 2835 tons ,psr hour. He also stated that he [thought the Board would make a mistake if it made Gladstone Pier the Svharf for ferry steamers between Wellington and Lyttelton. The question jwas not settled, and the public should (realise that the Board had not definitejly decided the matter. I " Mr Friedlander referred to the success of the new dredge, and speaking of the financial year said that the Board's .policy in keeping free of debt was one that should bo adopted by the other local bodies and by the Government.

I Mr Allison, referring to the dredging account, said that the amount ■charged to tho capital account for deepening work by the dredges was insufficient. The Te Whaka's work was entirely deepening work, and tho allocation of the charge.was faulty. Mr lAllisou also stated that tho absence of ja sinking fund for the £60,000 loan for [dredging was not satisfactory, and the Board while its finances were strong .should put away more towards extinguishing the loans in 1929. I Tho motion was carried and the i'Board adjourned, members leaving for [Lyttelton. ■ ■
